Project Description

When the National Football League’s Detroit Lions were looking to relocate from Pontiac to Allen Park Michigan, they were in need of a new facility to call their home. Working as the majority partner of White-Olson, LLC, White Construction provided Construction Management services for a brand new facility that combines the latest technology with eco-friendly design.

The lobby of the facility greets visitors and employees with a 480 foot long by 13 feet wide two story daylight flooded corridor that connects the actual training facility to the administrative offices. The 95,000 SF indoor practice field, largest in the nation at the time of construction, boasts a 110 foot ceiling allowing for unobstructed punting practice. Other features include expanded locker rooms, a spacious two story weight room, a 103 seat auditorium, full size kitchen and cafeteria, lounge areas with televisions, video, and gaming capabilities, music and internet connection, and palm read security pads for access into team sensitive areas.

Incorporating sustainable design elements figured prominently in the design and construction of the building. With the goals of conserving maximum energy and minimizing the use of natural resources, this LEED certified project features bamboo flooring, natural lighting from floor to ceiling windows, motion sensors, and recycled rubber flooring. The practice field is made of synthetic material composed of recycled tires.
